At the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2014, 25 panels were dedicated to wellness and mental health. Among the Davos attendees was Matthieu Ricard, Buddhist monk and French humanitarian. Ricard taught others how to achieve happiness and peace through mindfulness, leading early morning meditations for the meeting’s attendees. Among fans, there were the economist Nouriel Roubini, the CEO of Goldman Sachs, Lloyd Blanfein and Christine Lagarde, head of the International Monetary Fund who regularly practice the yoga asanas. A neuroscientist from the American Midwest captured as well the attention of world leaders. Davidson, a professor of psychology and psychiatry, has led groundbreaking research studying the effects of meditation and other mindfulness practices on the brain, and has worked closely with the Dalai Lama and other spiritual leaders. This week, Davidson participated in several different panels on topics including mindfulness meditation, technology’s impact on the brain, the neuroscience of leadership, and the art of happiness.
